The University of Glasgow’s School of Law is one of the UK’s leading law schools, with over 1,000 students and over 45 academic members of staff. The School receives excellent ratings for its research and teaching, and provides exceptional opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students by offering over 20 LLB Degree programmes and 6 specialised taught postgraduate programmes.
Part of the School’s vision is to establish itself as a centre of excellence for professional legal education. The new Diploma in Legal Practice is a key component in the School’s quality-based programmes of continuing professional development. Designed and delivered by a team of legal professionals, the Diploma aims to bridge the gap between academic teaching and applied professional learning.
The School’s commitment to ensuring the Diploma meet the needs of the profession is paramount; there is a wide range of elective choice on offer, which has largely been determined by the results of a consultation with both students and legal professionals. This is to ensure that Glasgow law graduates acquire the experience and skills necessary to equip them for professional practice.
A key feature of the Diploma and the way in which we are helping our students to build links with the professions is the ‘Glasgow Legal 40’; a network of University of Glasgow alumni drawn from all sectors of the legal profession. The main activities of the group will include a mentoring programme for Diploma students and a series of events which will benefit the next generation of lawyers to emerge from the School of Law.
The School of Law is committed to the continuing professional development of its law students and, with this in mind, is delighted to be sponsoring the Traineeship of the Year Award.
