The Law Society of Scotland promotes excellence across the solicitor profession through representation, support and regulation of its members. We also help to shape the law for the benefit of both the public and the profession.
Our key support services are:
• Continuing professional development
• Professional practice advice
• Law reform
• Regulation of solicitors.
All practising solicitors are members of the Society and they elect representatives to sit on the Society’s Council, our ruling body.
In meeting our overall aim of leading and supporting a successful and respected Scottish legal profession, we have set ourselves five principal objectives:
1. Excellent solicitor professionalism and reputation
2. Our members are trusted advisers of choice
3. Our members are economically active and sustainable
4. The Society is the professional body and regulator of choice
5. The Society is a high performing organisation
There are many ways to keep up to date with news and information about what the Society is doing for solicitors and the public, and to share your views on different issues.
Our website at www.lawscot.org.uk is an excellent source of information and includes a Find a Solicitor search function, the A to Z of professional practice rules and guidance, latest news and events.
To find out about events, issues and the work of the Society you can follow us on Twitter (@lawscot) or join in discussions with us and others through Linked-in.
You can also sign up to our monthly online newsletter – just go to the news section of our website and click on e-bulletin.
For new lawyers we have a dedicated newsletter every quarter for students, trainees and up to five years qualified solicitors. To find out more please email Heather McKendrick at firstname.lastname@example.org
